"Flexibility is the key to Individuality"

Remember, no two pieces of marble are alike. Like wood it will have many or few veins and knots, it is unpredictable which adds to its individual beauty.

What is Marble?

Marble in basic terms is a metamorphic rock formed by placing limestone under intense pressure, transforming it into marble.

The beautiful veining is caused by various mineral deposits in the limestone which are twisted and pulled during the transformation process.

During this process, the original limestone rock is recrystallized into an interlocking mosaic of calcite and dolomite crystals. The temperatures and pressures necessary to form marble usually destroy any fossils and sedimentary textures present in the original rock.

Pure white marble is the result of the recrystallizing of very pure limestones. The characteristic swirls and veins of many coloured marble varieties are usually due to various mineral impurities such as clay, silt, sand, iron oxide or chert (hard rock similar to flint) which were originally present as grains or layers in the limestone. Green colouration is often due to Serpentine (apple green - to black coloured rock) resulting from originally high magnesium levels within the limestone.
